Winter White: Romain Chamiot, Apremont Blanc, Savoie 2017

$ 38.00

The Chamiot family has owned vineyards in picturesque Aprémont in the Savoie district for many generations, and the youngest, Romain, has recently taken over the reigns from his grandparents to continue the winemaking lineage. The family estate’s seven hectares are nearly all planted to the local white grape, Jacquère, which is the varietal in this winter white. The vines are very old, and everything must be harvested by hand. It’s a stunning, surprising explosion of aromas, ranging from warm spices - think star anise, clove, nutmeg - to the pure alpine air, cold water streams, fresh-packed snow, and high mountain herbs. It’s immediate transport to the Alps. This wine’s never-ending texture is rich but clean, broad and enveloping, and reminds me of a cashmere sweater - and just as cozy! Drink cold, but not freezing. Simply delicious.
