Karim Vionnet Beaujolais Villages 2016
Karim was born in North Africa. He was adopted as a young boy by a family in Beaujolais and struggled to fit in culturally in France, standing out for his starkly different looks and unfamiliar roots. Instead of making friends with the other kids, he found himself at the heels of some of the greatest makers in Beaujolais, including Jules Chauvet, who he now considers his mentor (!!!). Karim still farms Chauvet's old vines! After learning from the original legends, including Foillard and Breton, Karim began making his own wine and quickly earned the respect of his peers. His clean, thoughtful Beaujolais is easily enjoyed, but still comes with a tension that anchors it distinctly to the land and his storied past.
This wine is full of bright red fruit, salty earth, and wild herbs. Put a slight chill on it, drink with anything! Literally.
