Jean-Marc Pillot Montagny 'Les Gouresses' 1er Cru 2015$ 56.00
Made from his good friend’s parcel of 110-year-old vines in this perfectly-situated premier cru, Jean-Marc has achieved a wine of balance, intensity, and supreme depth—from a vintage being lauded particularly for reds!
This white Burgundy is a reminder that good decisions in the vineyard and thoughtful winemaking pay off. At its core, it’s powerful: Montagny minerality, laced with a for-ehh-ver generous layer of sappy, yellow fruit and herbs. The ancient vines really steak their claim, evident in the infinite length that persists on and on. This bad larry will also handsomely reward a few years in bottle, but it’s singing now. What’s also cool: Jean-Marc only makes four barrels of this cuvee, without new oak, and it has been my favorite of his for many vintages.
